With reference to your letter of the 31st December
1894, enclosing a copy of a Report on the Water Supply of
Hong Kong, by Mr 0. Chadwick, and stating that the
Colonial Government are taking steps to carry out the
proposals made therein for improving the Water Supply of
Hong Kong, I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of
the Admiralty to state, for the information of the Secretary
of State for the Colonies, that in view of the measures
that are being adopted by the Colonial Government it is hoped
that the necessity for the construction by the Admiralty
of a large reservoir will no longer exist.
It is, however, considered very desirable that
the storage of water for the purposes of the Naval Hospital
should be improved, and with this object it is proposed to
construct a small reservoir adjoining the existing Hospital
reservoir in the position shown on the enclosed plan.
The site belongs to the Colonial Government and I
Under Secretary of State,
